How to structure your answer

STAR

Use STAR: situation, task, action, result. Keep the situation short, spend most of the answer on actions, and end with a metric plus what changed. For a Solution Architect answer, include AWS, Azure, the relevant stakeholders, and a result tied to scalability, security, cost, integration quality, and delivery clarity.

Example answer

I had a stakeholder disagreement on an enterprise architecture initiative where one group wanted speed and another was concerned about risk to scalability, security, cost, integration quality, and delivery clarity. I did not treat it as a personality conflict. I restated the shared goal, separated facts from preferences, and asked each side which risk they were trying to avoid. Then I proposed a phased decision with clear checks and ownership. That approach helped the group move forward without ignoring the concern, and it reinforced how important it is to make tradeoffs visible instead of letting them sit underneath the conversation.

Follow-up questions to prepare for

What tradeoff did you make, and how did it affect scalability, security, cost, integration quality, and delivery clarity?

This checks whether the candidate can reason beyond the headline result and explain practical decision-making.

Who was involved, and how did you keep engineering teams, security, executives, vendors, and operations aligned?

This tests collaboration, communication cadence, and stakeholder management in the real working environment.
